Cline Rules for C MCP Driver Implementation

# Cline Rules for C MCP Driver Implementation

## CRITICAL: Reference Driver Adherence
- NEVER embed logic from one reference method into another method
- Each method in our implementation must correspond EXACTLY to one method in the reference driver
- If reference has method `foo()` and `bar()`, implement them as separate `foo()` and `bar()` - do NOT combine their logic
- Keep method boundaries identical to reference driver
- If you're unsure about method structure, ASK to see the reference method before implementing

## Method Implementation Rules
- One reference method = One implementation method (1:1 mapping)
- Match the core function signature from reference (return type, parameters, general structure)
- **Naming flexibility**: Some variances in implementation naming conventions are acceptable, but maintain clarity and consistency
- **Primary goal**: Match the hardware initialization patterns of the reference driver using Binary Ninja MCP
- Implement ONLY the logic that belongs to that specific method
- If reference method calls other methods, your implementation should also call those methods (don't inline)
- Keep methods focused and single-purpose like the reference
- Using hard-coded offsets like +0x2c is unsafe and makes our code brittle. Replace the offset-based access with proper
struct member access based on our actual driver structures on an as needed basis.

## MCP Integration Guidelines
- Add MCP calls at the SAME points where reference driver would log/report
- MCP calls are ADDITIONS to reference logic, not replacements
- Format: `mcp_log_info("method_name: description", data);`
- Place MCP calls at method entry, key decision points, and method exit
- Don't let MCP calls change the core logic flow

## Code Organization
- Match reference file structure and method organization patterns
- Use similar variable naming where practical (some variance acceptable)
- Preserve reference commenting style and add MCP-specific comments only where needed
- Keep helper methods separate if reference has them separate

## Binary Ninja MCP Usage Rules - SUPPORTED OPERATIONS ONLY
**Supported BN MCP operations:**
- **Search for method** (query): Find and identify methods in reference driver
- **Search for data** (query): Locate data structures, variables, constants in reference
- **Decompile method only**: Get decompiled code for specific methods

**Additional supported tooling:**
- Reading and searching for files on CLI
- Standard file system operations

**Usage Guidelines:**
- Before implementing most any method, use Binary Ninja MCP to search for and decompile the reference method
- Query format: Use MCP to decompile the specific method you're about to implement
- Do NOT attempt unsupported BN MCP operations, only query and decompile are supported.
- Always compare your implementation against the Binary Ninja decompiled reference before finalizing

## When Confused or Stuck
- Think if this is a moment that you should use Binary Ninja MCP to search for and decompile the specific reference method you're implementing
- Typically Don't guess at method boundaries or logic flow - query the reference with Binary Ninja MCP first
- Ask for clarification on which reference methods should be called vs inlined
- Always get Binary Ninja decompilation before writing any method implementation
- MANDATORY: Adjust the BN implementations to use safe member struct access instead of offset based accesses.

## Quality Checks Before Submitting
- Verify each method maps to exactly one reference method
- Confirm hardware initialization patterns match reference driver (primary goal)
- Check that method call chains match reference driver
- Ensure MCP calls don't disrupt original logic flow
- Validate that only supported BN MCP operations were used

## Symbol Naming Conflicts Prevention
- NEVER use generic names like `irq_func_cb` that may conflict across multiple driver files
- Use descriptive, module-specific prefixes (e.g., `isp_event_func_cb`, `vic_irq_handlers`, etc.)
- Before declaring any global symbol, search all driver files to ensure no conflicts
- When exporting symbols, use unique names that clearly indicate their purpose and origin module
- If a symbol name conflict is discovered, rename to avoid collision rather than trying to share
